McCook House grand re-opening - there will be a Living History Encampment at the McCook House to celebrate the half million dollar renovation that was completed on the house over the winter. "A Small Town Goes to War" is the theme for the weekend for this step back in time. The 61st Ohio Volunteer Infantry will be encamped in the yard of the McCook House while several Confederate Generals and some support troops will camp on the village square. Saturday, Abraham Lincoln will give the "Call to Arms" and the Union Forces will gather and then present the colors to the President. Also, on tap for the weekend: fashion show of period attire, 1st person presentations from living historians, drills, demonstrations, and an honor roll of all those who paid the ultimate price during the Civil War. The McCook House was built in 1832 by Major Daniel McCook who along with his brother Dr. John McCook and their 14 sons all severed in the military prior to and during the Civil War, which is how they became known as the "Fighting McCooks". The Museum is an Ohio Historical Society Site operated by the Carroll County Historical Society. To learn more about the museum and the event check out www.carrollcountyohio.com |
