Hunting

Carroll County has approximately 3,000 acres of hunting grounds, both on land and water.

Valley Run Wildlife Area is located on Bacon Road between Carrollton and New Harrisburg. With 304 acres, you can find wild turkeys, ruffed grouse, fox-squirrels, and white-tailed deer in the area. Hear the sweet sounds of woodland songbirds, like kingfishers, wood ducks, pileated woodpeckers, crested flycatchers, catbirds, Northern orioles, and red-tailed hawks.

Leesville Wildlife Area has three separate parcels, totaling 394 acres. Access to the public land is from state Route 164, Delta Road, and Edgewood Road. In this area, you can find deer, wild turkey, ruffed grouse, and grey squirrel. Migrant birds can be seen in abundance during the spring migration and black bears have been sighted infrequently on the wildlife area. Hunting is the major recreational use of the area. You may also hike, fish, nature study, and bird watch.
